Didn't like the Payet song. Only reason being that the first time I heard it was after a match, at the pub next to East Ham Station, where half a dozen pissed up fans sang it. Loudly. Non-stop. For well over an hour. Had to leave after a couple of pints, it was that annoying. Hadn't heard it at all at the match or any previous ones so I guess it wasn't widely sung at that point but obviously soon caught on.

I’m heading to Brno before the final. Great city.

Yes, Brno rhymes too and Brno is the second biggest Czech city. Nobody really questioned Moscow as it was thought plausible that an eastern European was from somewhere near there. I only realised his home country was nearer London than Moscow when Ludo himself pointed it out. I imagine that was the same for most people.

“How shit must you be, we’re winning away”

I hate it because if we sing it then it usually means we are doing shit.

It might be because it rhymes with miklosko?

I was thinking a few days back what on earth was the original of the ludo song.

Blimey. Not quite aggressive as the ludo song

Same with the jam rolls, they hate being called Eastern Europeans

Yeah, Czech’s get the hump about that as they are Central European and forced into the ‘Eastern Block’ like half of Germany was….yet they still get classed as Eastern Europeans….

I find the "I come from near Moscow" line an insight into how we viewed the world at that time. It was 90s and the Berlin wall hadn't long been down. So anywhere in Eastern Europe was just part of the Soviet Union and we didn't have much of a working knowledge of the geography in that part of the world. Czechoslovakia, as it was then, was Soviet in our heads so "near Moscow". At least that's my take.

I've always wondered how that Ludo song came about. It must have something to so with Yon Yonson, a pretty obscure 1987 single by the Dave Howard Singers, where the entire lyrics are:

"My name is Yon Yonson,
I work in Wisconsin.
I work in a lumber mill there.
The people I meet as
I walk down the street,
They say "Hey! What's your name?"

The tune ain't quite the same though:

He (Ludo)was asked if he like the song about him which he replied that he thought it was great but he doesn’t come from near Moscow.

The Ludo Miklosko song.

For a start he was born closer to London than Moscow.

He left club, we stopped singing it, he came back to the club, we started singing it again. He left the club 13 years ago and we still sing it.

That song they were singing yesterday about Declan Rice staying on.
Wanky and embarrassing

In the early sixties it was the Tremeloes version of Twist and Shout that was played at the ground.

FWIW the group were all Barking boys with three of them meeting at Park modern Secondary school. Oddly two of them, like me, lived in the postal area of Dagenham but our Borough was Barking. Poole was the odd one out in that he came from the, private, Leftly built estate situated north of Upney Station

Comma , out of interest ,do you mean leftly brothers , ?

The "Irons" thing does grate on me and I have never done it but my son loves it, he's 14. The Gent game he was belting it out in Stratford station on the way home. I think it is mostly young ones that do it. In my mind they are just trying to whip up a bit of noise and atmosphere and if the alternative to them doing it is just a bunch of middle aged men like me mumbling to each other on the way back to the station then I prefer that they did it. Although I would prefer they sang or chanted something else.

Someone pointed out a few weeks back that the "irons" chant is exactly like the seagulls in "finding nemo" constantly saying "mine?" And now I can't unsee it
